Former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose stated that the recent surge of defections from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has validated the actions of former Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike and the G-5 governors, who were previously labeled as traitors.

In an interview on TVC, Fayose remarked, “Most of the governors who defected did so for their own benefit, seeking to secure their futures and those of their constituents. I cannot blame them.”

He revealed that he had previously cautioned PDP leaders about impending challenges within the party.

“When the situation began to deteriorate, I spoke out. I informed Sẹ́un Okinbaloye that the PDP would encounter significant challenges,” he stated.

Fayose mentioned that Wike was transparent about the issues within the party, particularly concerning agreements made with the party’s presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar, which he asserted were not fulfilled.

“Governor Wike did not conceal anything. He openly stated that what Atiku had promised them was not delivered. He championed that cause and he did not do it alone,” Fayose noted.

He further emphasized that Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and other members of the G-5 alliance remained steadfast, highlighting their engagement with the president on multiple occasions.

According to Fayose, although many Nigerians initially viewed the G-5 governors as traitors, recent developments have shifted these perceptions.

“Many people saw the G-5 governors as traitors. However, if you reflect on the current situation, the PDP's presidential candidate has departed, the vice-presidential candidate has left, and both governors and senators have exited,” he stated.

Fayose concluded that the mass defections indicate that Wike had anticipated the crisis sooner than others.

“This means Wike has been vindicated. What others failed to see, Wike recognized much earlier,” he said.
