The other four games – v , Notts Forest v , Burnely v Aston Villa, and Spurs v Leeds – ended up even.

But ref Chris Kavanagh’s correct verdict that was fouled – after thr lengthy VAR delay – meant Leeds fan James lost out on the bumper payout.

And talking about the ruling – which has sparked fierce debate among fans and pundits – painter and decorator James said: “I was guttted and felt robbed.

“I feel like it should have stood and that they spent five minutes looking for something to penalise.

“I was cursing a lot at the officials when it happened as there was not long left and it would have made it a draw.

“I just fancied the bets and normally put on an accumulator – and last weekend thought a lot of them would be draws.”

James’ bet was still on when V Arsenal kicked off at 4.30pm on Sunday – after Burnley v Villa and Palace v Everton had ended 2-2 while Forest v Newcastle finsished 1-1 in the 2pm kick offs.

If the goal by Hammers’ striker had stood it would have meant James had four draws on his coupon – before Monday’s 1-1 draw between relegation-threatened Spurs and his team, Leeds.

And James – who watched the game with girlfriend Sarah Howley, 40 – admitted it was “bitter-sweet when Dominic Calvert equalised to draw Leeds level at the stadiu.

James – who placed his bet with Coral on Sunday morning and was given a 5 per cent boost on his returns – would have won £10,852 from his £20 wager.

He added: “I was obviously glad we equalised but have to admit it felt bittersweet because of the bet. At least Leeds have had a good season and a lot of people would like to see Spurs go down.

“Sarah was already spending the money by the time the VAR decision had started, and we planned to rip our garden out and get it totally re-done.

“The money would have been enough for that but it wasn’t meant to be.”
