A WELSH ELECTRICIAN has the opportunity to earn more money with nine darts than 124 players did from their appearances during the 2025/26 PDC World Darts Championship.
Curtis Griffiths, a 27-year-old electrician from Wrexham, has been randomly selected to throw on the world-famous stage just before the World final featuring the professionals.

Having successfully passed background checks, Griffiths – a Liverpool fan whose darts team is Gresford Colliery Club – will have three attempts to score 180 points or more.
If he succeeds, he will earn £180,000 – only four players from the 128-strong field will walk away with more money for throwing darts this festive season.
Griffiths, who was chosen from nearly 30,000 entrants, stated: “I’ve only just started playing competitively in the last year or so.
“I’m a bit anxious about the challenge, but I hope to stay calm and get it done.”
A decision will be made regarding when exactly he will take the stage in front of 3,300 fans, and how close it will be to the start of the 2026 World final, which begins after 8 PM.
Griffiths will enjoy the full walk-on experience – he will be introduced on stage, and a referee will be present, adding to the excitement and tension.
It is up to him whether he wants to wear the darts shirt provided, but any accompanying music has yet to be confirmed.
Nevertheless, if he can maintain his composure, he will have the opportunity to secure a substantial, life-changing jackpot, assuming he can hit a few trebles and doubles.
Griffiths has experience, having played darts since he was 12 years old, although he only recently began competing in a local league last year.
His participation is part of the inaugural charity challenge – the Darts of Destiny – an initiative created by tournament sponsors Paddy Power.
To qualify, Griffiths had to make a donation through a JustGiving fundraising page before midnight on December 31, 2025.
The campaign aims to raise awareness for the Even Bigger 180 initiative, which encourages 180,000 men to take a life-saving risk assessment for prostate cancer.
In the UK, one man dies from prostate cancer every 45 minutes – it is the most common cancer among men – but an individual’s risk can be assessed through an online questionnaire that takes just 30 seconds.
Paddy Power, the Irish bookmaker, is donating £1,000 to Prostate Cancer UK for every 180 points scored during the flagship event.
There were 914 180s scored in the 2023/24 tournament and 907 in last year’s World Championship.
