Troops of the Nigerian Army have recovered the bodies of two police personnel after repelling suspected terrorists along a key route linking Katsina and Kano States.
According to a post by security analyst Zagazola Makama, security sources said the incident happened around 1:30 a.m. on April 8, when troops of the 17 Brigade acted on intelligence about armed men setting up a roadblock along the Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu axis, a border route between the two states.
According to the sources, the troops moved swiftly to the area and fired warning shots, forcing the attackers to flee towards Kankia Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“On sighting the troops, the terrorists abandoned the roadblock and retreated into nearby areas,” a source said.
During a follow-up search of the scene, the soldiers found the bodies of two Nigeria Police personnel, believed to have been killed by the fleeing attackers.
The remains were later evacuated and handed over to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO, in Gidan Mutum Daya, Katsina State.
Security agencies have continued efforts to track down the fleeing suspects, while patrol activities have been increased along the route to prevent further incidents.
The Yargajam–Sabon Garin–Garu corridor has recorded repeated security challenges, with authorities maintaining joint operations to protect travelers and residents in the area.
