The Nigerian Army has announced that its troops from the 6 Division have apprehended 19 individuals suspected of oil theft and dismantled 22 illegal refining sites across the Niger Delta.
They reported that the operation also resulted in the recovery of over 180,000 liters of stolen petroleum products, with an estimated market value of N150 million.
This information was shared in a statement by the Acting Deputy Director of the 6 Division Army Public Relations, Lt. Col. Jonah Danjuma, on Monday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.
Danjuma mentioned that the operation was the result of a month-long coordinated effort conducted in four states in collaboration with other security agencies.
He emphasized that these operations focused on oil theft, pipeline vandalism, and related crimes in the Niger Delta, reaffirming that troops will persist in maintaining a strong presence in the operational environment to restrict the actions of criminal elements.
“The troops of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army, in close cooperation with other security agencies, have consistently maintained control over the operational landscape, effectively limiting the freedom of action for criminal elements across the Niger Delta region.
“In several operations executed, 19 suspected oil thieves were captured, 22 illegal refining hubs were destroyed, and over 180,000 liters of stolen products, valued at over N150,000,000.00, were recovered,” the statement concluded.
