A POPULAR garden chair sold at TK Maxx has been urgently recalled after safety chiefs warned it could collapse and cause injury.

The warning applies across the UK, where customers are being told to stop using the Urban Balcony deckchair and foldable hanging chair immediately and return them for a full refund.

The Office for Product Safety and Standards said the Urban Balcony Deckchair poses a risk of entrapment because it comes with no safety warnings, no weight limit, and no clear instructions for use.

If the locking mechanism is not properly secured, the wooden chair could suddenly collapse.

The watchdog added: “The product does not meet the requirements of the General Product Safety Regulations 2005.

“Owners are advised to stop using the product immediately and return it to any or store for a full refund.”

TK Maxx confirmed the action on its website, saying: “We have identified a quality issue with the Urban Balcony Foldable Hanging Chair.

The straps may fail during use causing the chair to collapse.

This issue does not affect any other styles of hanging chair.

“The safety of our customers is very important to us and we are taking this action as a precaution.”

The hanging chairs were sold in stores between April 2021 and July 2021 and can be identified by batch number 50 245431, printed on the sewn-in label of the cushion.

Anyone with the affected items can return them to any branch of TK Maxx or Homesense for a refund.

This isn’t the first time budget beauty fans have been told to stop using a popular TK Maxx and Homesense product straight away.

The warning comes under an urgent recall notice, which said the product could cause an “electric shock or fire.”

The hair cap has been sold at both TK Maxx and Homesense since the start of 2025, with the product model number ZT-A.

However, the product’s maker, for shoppers’ safety.

The two high street retailers have announced the recall and are urging customers to return the item.

TK Maxx and Homesense shoppers can claim a full refund or replacement upon handing the cap back in store.

According to the notice, the risk of “electric shock or fire” is caused by the fuse in the cap’s plug, which does not meet UK safety standards.

The recall also urges shoppers to “spread the news” about the risk by informing friends and family.

Shockingly, this is not the only bathroom essential to be pulled from sale recently.

, sold on , has also been recalled after faults were discovered with its fuse.

Safety experts warned it could cause a fire if an electrical surge or fault occurred.

It added that the fuse inside the plug does not contain granular filler, is the wrong length, and has insecurely fixed endcaps — all of which increase the fire risk.

Your product recall rights

Chief consumer reporter reveals all you need to know.

Product recalls are an important means of protecting consumers from dangerous goods.

As a general rule, if a recall involves a branded product, the manufacturer would usually have lead responsibility for the recall action.

But it’s often left up to supermarkets to notify customers when products could put them at risk.

If you are concerned about the safety of a product you own, always check the manufacturer’s website to see if a safety notice has been issued.

When it comes to appliances, rather than just food items, the onus is usually on you – the customer – to register the appliance with the manufacturer as if you don’t there is no way of contacting you to tell you about a fault.

If you become aware that an item you own has been recalled or has any safety noticed issued against it, make sure you follow the instructions given to you by the manufacturer.

They should usually provide you with more information and a contact number on its safety notice.

In some cases, the manufacturer might ask you to return the item for a full refund or arrange for the faulty product to be collected.

You should not be charged for any recall work – such as a repair, replacement or collection of the recalled item
