Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has urged the National Assembly to speed up the creation of state police, saying it is the best way to handle the country’s growing security challenges.
Speaking on Tuesday during the New Legal Year ceremony in Jos, the governor said the insecurity facing Plateau makes local policing urgent.
“I believe that the time for the creation of state police is now. When we do have state police, I am sure we can respond better and arrest situations faster. I therefore wholeheartedly lend my voice to this call, and I’m glad Mr. President has also joined those calling for state police. I urge the National Assembly not to relent in this effort.”
The governor praised President Bola Tinubu for backing the move and revealed that Plateau will soon strengthen its own security outfit.
He added that, with God’s help, the state will hire 1,450 more personnel for Operation Rainbow to strengthen security.
Mutfwang encouraged residents to share reliable information with security agencies to help tackle crime, saying everyone has a role to play in keeping the state safe.
