It retreats behind a gate and the hiker takes her chance to flee.
Experts say running is the worst thing to do when approached by a grizzly bear.
This can trigger their chase instinct – and they’re much faster than humans.
The woman backed away slowly initially instead of making a run for it.
Alberta Parks officials said: “Safety of visitors is always our top priority, and staff are monitoring the situation closely.”
They advise visitors to make loud noises and travel in groups to avoid close calls with the creatures.
Walkers should keep their dogs on leads and keep an eye out for signs the beasts have been around recently.
These include fresh digging or scat.
If a bear does approach, visitors are advised to stand their ground, and speak in a low, calm voice.
They should never scream or climb a tree to escape.
