TAI WOFFINDEN fought back the tears as he announced his retirement from speedway racing.
revealed that he is quitting the sport after being told he needs more surgery .

Woffy, 35, is the most successful British speedway rider of all-time after a glittering career over 20 years.

In a social media statement, an emotional Woffinden now feels it is the time to retire from racing.
He said: “After more hospital scans I’ve been told I need more surgery following my latest crash in Poland.
“After a lot of thought I’ve come to the decision that it’s time to retire from professional racing.
“To be honest this isn’t an easy thing to say. For many years this just hasn’t been what I do, it’s been a huge part of what I am as a person.
He gave an emotional announcement confirming the news
“When I look back I see five world titles, Grand Prix victories, national titles and team championships.
“But more than the trophies, the people, the friendships, the laughs, the tough days.
“The moments that tested me, the moments that remind me exactly why I fell in love with the sport.
“What started as a dream, a life I could never have imagined.
“I’ve been lucky enough to do something I truly loved and I’ll never take that for granted.
“I’ve learned that nobody achieves anything on their own. Every step of this journey has been possible because of the incredible people around me.
“To my beautiful family, thank you. Thank you for every sacrifice that you’ve made.
“For believing in me when I doubted myself. Standing beside me through every high and every low.
“My wife Faye I could never truly put into words what you mean to me. I simply wouldn’t be here without you.

“To everyone I worked with over the years, mechanics, teams, sponsors, managers and everyone behind the scenes. Thank you.
“It’s been an honour to share this journey with you. You’ve challenged me, supported me and inspired me and given me memories and friendships that I’ll carry with me forever.
“To everyone who followed my journey, cheered me on or simply taken the time to support me along the way.
“Thank you. I’ll never forget the love and support you’ve shown.
“I don’t think there’s ever a perfect time but eventually you realise your body has given everything it has to give and you can walk away feeling proud and grateful and at peace with that decision.
“It’s time for a new chapter, new adventures and more time with the people that matter the most.
“From the bottom of my heart thank you for allowing me to live this dream.
“It’s been the privilege of my life and I’ll be forever grateful. Here’s to the next chapter.”
