Honolulu Ocean Safety lifeguards “confirmed the presence of an aggressive shark near the swim area and surf break” after the attack.
The animal was estimated to be between six and eight feet long.
“Warning signs have been posted and ocean users are strongly advised to stay out of the water in the affected area until further notice,” HOSD added.
About an hour after the attack, Magic Island also had warnings of “two aggressive 8-foot sharks” in the Ala Moana Bowls surf break.
Meanwhile, just days before, a couple had to fight off a 12-foot tiger shark in Maui while kayaking off the coast of Olowalu.
They told local news outlets how the animal grabbed their boat in its jaws and shook until they hit it multiple times, scaring it off.
