STEVE BRUCE has admitted he was left baffled after being passed up for the role of Jamaica manager, which was given to Steve McClaren instead.

The highly experienced ex-manager believed Jamaica had announced the wrong Steve when the managerial role was confirmed to be McClaren’s.

Bruce told : “I thought I was getting it. Then all of a sudden, has pipped me to it.

“So I did ring the guy and say to him, ‘have you been talking to the wrong Steve? Got mixed up or something happened’.

“Obviously, he gave it to Steve McClaren.”

McClaren left his role as assistant manager at in 2024 to take the position, but following failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup, after just over a year in the role.

Jamaica have since appointed domestic-based coach Rudolph Speid until March.

Since being sacked from his latest managerial role at in October, has been out of a job.

Asked if he would consider managing the Reggae Boyz now, Bruce told talkSPORT: “Why not?”

He then added: “When you look at the players that Jamaica have got, they’ve got a lot of players who play in England for a start.

“So it might have been something that would have been interesting to me. Certainly, an international job at my age, maybe, we’ll see.

Whilst he’s open to an international job, the ex-Man United defender is in no rush to return to managing as he is “enjoying working in the media”.

Bruce said: “Sometimes it’s a little bit easier just to sit and commentate and enjoy the football match”, and hinted that he doesn’t miss the stress of a managerial role.

Stress which he is all too familiar with, having managed 12 clubs in total, three of which were in the Premier League under his tenure: and .
