Public primary and junior secondary schools throughout Sokoto State will commence academic activities for the second term on Monday, January 5, 2026, despite ongoing security challenges in certain areas of the state.
The Sokoto State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has announced that the first-term holiday will conclude on Sunday, January 4, 2026, with all schools under its jurisdiction resuming the next day.
In a statement issued by the Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Umar Nagwari Tambuwal, the board indicated that sufficient arrangements have been made to ensure a seamless and orderly resumption.
Tambuwal called upon parents, guardians, traditional and religious leaders, as well as School-Based Management Committees (SBMCs) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTAs), to collaborate in ensuring that students return to school as planned.
He also instructed education secretaries and school support officers across the state to initiate rigorous monitoring and supervision of schools to ensure adherence to the resumption schedule and uphold academic standards.
According to him, three special monitoring and supervision teams, each led by a permanent board member, will be deployed across the state’s three senatorial zones to evaluate resumption levels and school readiness.
Tambuwal further cautioned contractors involved in classroom construction, perimeter fencing, borehole projects, and furniture supply to expedite their work and complete projects in accordance with contractual agreements.
The board reaffirmed its dedication to maintaining access to basic education and protecting the academic future of children in Sokoto State amidst ongoing security challenges.
