The former New Zealand captain, currently an assistant at NRL side Parramatta Eels, will fill the shoes of Willie Peters, who is heading to take charge of new boys Down Under PNG Chiefs.

And the current boss, who guided the Robins to all four trophies and this year’s Challenge Cup final, believes he is the right man to keep them at the top.
Having faced him on the field, he also knows Cayless – who has signed a three-year deal – is not a man to be messed with.
Peters said: “Nathan was a tough front rower, that’s for sure and you knew what you were going to get.
“I’m sure nothing’s changed since then and his style as a coach will be similar, your values never change.
“He’s got strong values, is a quality person and works hard. He’s got great leadership qualities and it’s great the club has got its man and I’m sure he’ll take the opportunity.
“Our chief executive, Paul Lakin, asked if I’d had much to do with Nathan. I just said I’d played against him when we were younger, but the thing that stood out was his leadership quality.
“But nothing’s changed for me. When I sit in that coaches’ box, I get that same feeling – nothing will change in terms of finishing what we started.”
Cayless came out on top of 15 candidates from both sides of the world to take on the Rovers job.
And evolution rather than revolution will be key as he said: “My rugby coaching philosophy aligns with the hardworking, successful culture that exists at Hull KR.

“The club’s clarity in sharing the journey to where it is today was integral to my understanding of the professionalism, structure, and strong leadership within the club.
“Under my leadership as Head Coach, the supporters can expect to see a group of players that continually put the team and club first, chase constant improvement and execute the fundamentals of the game at the highest of standards consistently
“Throughout my playing career I developed values of honesty, integrity and hard work. These values have transferred into my coaching as they are values of action – do what you say you will do and always do your best no matter what.”
