The former St Helens women’s star, who concluded her playing career last year, has already officiated Championship matches and served as a touch judge in the men's top flight.

Phil Bentham, the referees' boss, believes she will be officiating in the center by 2026 after successfully overseeing the Women’s Super League Grand Final.

He stated: “Tara transitioned from finishing her playing career 13 months ago to refereeing high-level Championship games. Her rapid rise is quite remarkable.

“There’s absolutely no reason she can’t referee in the men’s Super League by 2026. The final step is certainly the most significant.

“She exudes confidence, and we treat her no differently here. If I need a player's perspective, I can turn to Tara for insights during meetings.

“She has contributed positively to the referees’ group. She trains with the male officials and participates in the same sessions. She is fully integrated.”

Bentham shared that Tara, who was born in Germany while her father served in the army, had to adapt her fitness regimen after retiring from playing to align with her fellow officials.

Now she is on par with her male counterparts in terms of fitness, and with one piece of advice from her boss on managing taller players, she is poised to make history.

He remarked: “The players are trained for physical contact. Our officials focus on running and decision-making, especially when fatigued.

“She was built for tackling and absorbing impacts rather than running continuously for 80 minutes.

“We needed to elevate her fitness level, which took about three months. She is now performing at an excellent standard.

“And regarding taller players? Just apply the same strategy I used, as I’m only 5 feet 8 inches tall.

“Maintain a three-meter distance and avoid standing too close to them while looking up.”
