Keane, 54, misinterpreted Fernandes’ words and accused the star of prioritising individual glory over the team after his record-equalling 20th assist of the season against .
Fernandes, who broke the record with his 21st assist against Brighton, attempted to set the record straight during an appearance on The Diary of a CEO podcast.
He told podcast host Steven Bartlett: “What I don’t like is when people lie about things. I’ve always taken criticism from everyone and anyone, and I never replied to anything whatsoever.
“People have an opinion, they think it’s good, bad, whatever. And, in this case, what said is a lie. Luckily for me, everything is recorded.
“Imagine if it wasn’t. People will think, ‘Bruno is the guy always trying to get the assist’. I accept his criticism, I accept that he might like me as a player or not, like me as a person or not.
“But what I don’t like is that he puts words in my mouth that have not been said, that’s the only thing I don’t like.”
The 31-year-old also revealed he had reached out to former boss to get Keane’s number and discuss the incident in private.
However, Keane seems to have taken the clash back into the public sphere.

The former United captain took to Instagram on bank holiday Monday to post a picture of a donkey in the spotlight on a stage, with two lions cast in shadows.
Keane’s story post to his 2.5 million followers was captioned: “Too much attention makes a donkey think he’s a lion.”
Speaking on The Overlap earlier this month, Keane had said: “After the game he [Fernandes] got interviewed and the captain of said: ‘A few times, I probably should have … shot but I made the passes’. Wow.
“How can your mindset be not to win the match but be about an individual record?
“He won’t be winning trophies, not with that mindset of the team. They’re giving up two goals and everyone’s getting all giddy because he’s equalled the record for assists. It’s mind-boggling. It’s a circus act.”
had, in fact, said: “There were probably moments today when I should have passed instead of shot. I’m very happy for the assist, but more than that, I’m happy for the win and to finish the season on a high.”
Keane, alongside members of the Class of ’92 including , and , has been a particularly vocal critic of United in recent years.

, claiming pundits never have the nerve to repeat criticism face to face after the pair mocked the defender’s size in relation to before United’s 2-0 derby win.
On his attempt to squash his beef with Keane, Fernandes added on podcast: “I’ve never ever had something to say, I’ve never said something wrong.
“I even asked Ole [for] his number to text him to be honest, to have a word with him to say that I don’t mind the criticism [but] I don’t like when people lie about things that I say.
“It goes a little bit over the top of the things that I think are acceptable. I accept criticism. I accept that he can say things that I don’t like and I don’t like to see it.
“But, as I said before, that improves me. What I don’t like is that people make their own words on what I say and it’s not true.
“Obviously I’ve always showed a lot of respect for Roy Keane and for everything he’s done for the club and for everything he’s always said.”
