THIS is the moment a rogue trader who fleeced a vulnerable pensioner out of almost £15,000 is arrested just seconds after walking free from prison.

Bodycam footage shows cops swoop in on serial fraudster Amos Smith as he heads for freedom having served six months at HMP Five Wells for similar offences.

As cops move in to nick the 47-year-old, the crook is read his rights and can be heard saying: “I know all about it”.

A officer asks Smith if he understands why he is being arrested.

He replies: “Well obviously you have just arrested me.”

Smith then protests: “Well I have just done six months on a recall for no reason.

“Now I am being released you are coming up and doing this here.”

The officer simply responds: “Yep.”

The arrest came after Kent Police linked Smith to a cruel fraud targeting a pensioner in his 70s in Twydall, Kent.

Using a false name, Smith carried out ground clearance work at the victim’s home during May and June 2025.

The work included removing trees and clearing rubbish from the garden.

He initially charged the homeowner £11,000 for the job.

But a month later, Smith returned claiming even more was owed.

He escorted the pensioner to a nearby shop so he could withdraw cash while Smith watched.

The frightened victim handed over money on August 5, 6, 7, 9 and 13.

In total, Smith conned him out of almost £15,000.

Smith, of Gillingham, Kent, was arrested on April 14 this year immediately after being released from .

He was later charged with two counts of fraud by false representation.

Last month, Smith admitted both offences at Maidstone Magistrates’ Court.

He was jailed for two years and eight months.

Detective Constable James Finch said: “Smith took advantage of a vulnerable member of our community, and arrogantly thought he could get away with it.

“The persistence with which he approached his victim shows he had a lack of remorse or reflection regarding his actions, which have left the man more anxious and hugely out of pocket.

“We are satisfied he is behind bars and we hope that by getting his name and image out in public, others will avoid falling victim to this conman.”
