The Secretary to the Rivers State Government, Dr. Benibo Anabraba, has officially resigned from his position within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This information was revealed in a letter dated January 5, 2026, which was addressed to the PDP Chairman of Ward 1 in the Akuku-Toru Local Government Area of the state.
In the letter, Benibo Anabraba stated that his choice to leave the primary opposition party is a “personal” matter.
He expressed gratitude for the “political advantages gained from the party during my time as a member.”
Although Anabraba did not specify his next political affiliation, sources indicate that he has joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
According to DAILY POST, there has been a significant shift of members from the PDP to the ruling party since the state governor, Siminalayi Fubara, departed from the opposition party.
The state is currently experiencing another wave of political turmoil as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and his former political ally, Governor Fubara, have resumed their conflict.
While Fubara seemingly joined the ruling party in hopes of returning to the government house in 2027, Wike has pledged to thwart those ambitions.
