US Congressman Riley M. Moore has specified two conditions that the Nigerian government must fulfill before any collaboration with the US military to address the country's security challenges can be considered.
In an interview with Fox News, Rep. Moore stated that the first condition is the release of Sunday Jackson, who received a death sentence for killing a Fulani herdsman in what he claims was an act of self-defense.
According to DAILY POST, Jackson was sentenced to death after he killed a herdsman who allegedly trespassed on his farm.
During the interview, the Republican lawmaker emphasized that the young man must be freed before the US would contemplate partnering with Nigeria to confront the long-standing security crisis.
He further noted that the second condition is for the Nigerian government to provide a credible plan to disarm the Fulani herdsmen who are instigating unrest in the Middle Belt.
He remarked, “It appears they are willing to collaborate with the United States to put an end to these killings. They have met with me and the administration as well.
“We have made some progress in encouraging them to partner with us to stop these killings, but there are several actions they need to take, and I believe one of the initial steps is the release of Sunday Jackson.
“Another step is to work with us to develop a plan to disarm the radical Fulani militants in the Middle Belt of the country.”
