‘Hojlund and the goalpost, name a better duo’ – Man Utd fans stunned at how striker reacted to Dorgu ignoring him

RASMUS HOJLUND furiously lashed out at the goalpost after being snubbed for a pass by teammate Patrick Dorgu.

Hojlund was incensed by Dorgu’s decision to ignore his run at the back post in the late stages of Manchester United’s 2-2 pre-season draw with Everton on Sunday night .

The Red Devils failed to win for the first time during their pre-season tour of the USA as they twice blew a lead in a feisty friendly with Everton in Atlanta, Georgia.

And Hojlund was certainly feeling fiery as he angrily kicked the upright and screamed towards teammate Dorgu when he wasn’t picked out for a pass in the 86th minute.

With the score tied at 2-2, Hojlund had made a darting run to the back post while Dorgu carried the ball inside the box.

The striker was looking for a square pass for Dorgu to set up a simple tap-in, but the full-back chose to ignore his vocal plea for an assist and went for goal himself – ultimately seeing his effort saved with relative ease by Jordan Pickford.

Hojlund clearly felt that he would have had a guaranteed goal had Dorgu squared him the ball, as he furiously kicked the goal post and began to scream in Dorgu’s direction.

However fans seemed to think Dorgu had made the right decision, backing the 20-year-old’s decision and suggesting the option for a pass was cut off by Everton defenders.

One wrote: “Dorgu made the right play. The pass wasn’t there.”

While another added: “Hojlund made the wrong run. The pass would have been intercepted.”

A third teased Hojlund by joking: “Hojlund and the goalpost. Name a better duo.”

And a fourth piled in: “Hitting the post is as close to goal as Hojlund usually gets”.

Hojlund’s future at United has been up in the air this summer with boss Ruben Amorim looking to get a new striker through the doors at Old Trafford.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko appears to be top of the list for now, but Hojlund has vowed to stay put and “fight” for his spot.

The Danish forward wasn’t the only United player to show some frustration during the draw, with captain Burno Fernandes involved in a scuffle in the second half .

Fernandes, 30, clashed with Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye on the half-way line in ugly scenes that saw both players shown yellow cards.

With United leading 2-1, the Portuguese playmaker was chasing Ndiaye as the Toffees launched a counter attack when he appeared to kick out at the Senegal international as he skipped away from him.

Ndiaye was incensed by the lunging kick, which seemingly had no chance of nicking the ball away, and immediately turned to confront Fernandes.

Tempers began to flare from there with the pair trading shoves on the half-way line and attracting the interest of teammates who tried to pull them apart.

It tarnished  an otherwise impressive outing for the pair  who had both found the net earlier in the game.

Fernandes opened the scoring in the 18th minute with a calmly taken penalty after  James Tarkowski  brought down Amad Diallo in the area.

While Ndiaye was the Everton man to level the scores in the 39th minute when he tidily tucked home a delicious cross from Idrissa Gana Gueye at the back post.

Fernandes later set up Mason Mount ‘s 69th minute goal for United, making a clever sideways pass into the box for Mount to spectacularly send curling into the far corner of  Pickford ‘s net.

Before youngster Ayden Heaven turned the ball into his own goal just over five minutes later after Amad’s attempted tackle on Dwight McNeil deflected onto his leg and into the back of the net to level the scores.
