William, who is also President of the FA, revealed last week that success for England was winning the world cup when he appeared on the Kelce brothers’ podcast.

He also said he would travel to America if England plays in the final in New Jersey in two weeks’ time.

When asked what he thought of the US hosting the games, he said: “It’s fantastic. I think it’s been a brilliant World Cup.

“It’s been really well started and I think the tournament’s been well balanced.”

The prince hailed Thomas Tuchel’s attacking style of football, celebrated Brits watching games in pubs, debated the rights and wrongs of VAR and picked his ‘Mount Rushmore’ of England heroes.

He also admonished his two American hosts for calling football “soccer”, described the highs and lows of being a footy fan and the “pretty spicy” and “rude” terrace chants, in a light-hearted chat.

While many wrote the Three Lions off in the imposing fortress of the Azteca, William showed his football nous and said England had a “really good chance”.

He said: “I’m taking it calmly and quietly and like, come on, we’re going to do well and see how we go. But I am quietly confident, I think.

“Thomas Tuchel who’s a manager, the coach, he’s got them into a really good frame of mind. The team playing with more freedom, more fluidity.

“I think Gareth, who was the previous manager, his philosophy was very much of defense. So if we don’t let goals in, we’ll win.”

The prince is a massive football fan and last month after Aston Villa won the gong.

William beamed as his beloved team won and was even spotted getting emotional in the stands.

He is also the patron of the FA, and like the 3,000 England fans inside the Azteca, will remember the match for a long time.
