Senator Aliyu Magatakarda Wamakko, leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Sokoto State, has denied recent claims by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) that it executed several projects in the state.
He described the claims as false, misleading, and an attempt by the PDP to take credit for projects it never carried out.
Wamakko, through his media aide, Malam Bashar Abubakar Sarkin Hausawa, said the opposition party was circulating old videos and reports from over eight years ago to discredit Governor Ahmed Aliyu’s administration and the APC leadership in Sokoto.
“Our attention has been drawn to a desperate campaign by the PDP, using outdated propaganda and edited videos to mislead the public,” Sarkin Hausawa told journalists in Sokoto.
“These materials are being released in parts to create a false impression of performance and to confuse the people of Sokoto State.”
He said the PDP’s main worry was the growing popularity of Governor Aliyu, who, in less than two years, had achieved more progress than the PDP did in eight years. Sarkin Hausawa urged residents to ignore what he called the opposition’s “baseless tactics,” noting visible progress in infrastructure, education, health, and rural development under the APC government.
The APC spokesman also addressed some of the PDP’s specific claims. He said the opposition was wrong to take credit for the Asari Water Scheme, which was initiated under Wamakko’s administration to improve water supply in Sokoto and nearby communities.
“The project had 40 wells serving areas like Bakin Kusu, Gidan Sanda, Ruggar Wauru, and Farfaru,” he said. “But during Governor Tambuwal’s administration, the project was abandoned, and only one well was functioning when he left office.”
He explained that Wamakko’s government had also worked on water projects in Runjin Sambo, Gagi, Mana, Tamaje, and Old Airport, which reached 70 percent completion before the PDP administration failed to continue them.
Sarkin Hausawa further dismissed the PDP’s claims about housing estates, schools, and agricultural institutions. He said the Kalambaina Housing Estate was completed by Wamakko’s government, while the Gidan Salenke project was left unfinished by the succeeding administration.
“Boarding schools in Shagari, Maruda, and Illela were built under Wamakko,” he said. “The current government is now renovating the Sanyinna school and expanding it under the AGILE programme to further improve learning conditions.”
He said the PDP’s statements were part of a deliberate attempt to distort facts and undermine the real achievements of the APC government in Sokoto State.
