A former governor of Jigawa State and founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Sule Lamido, has taken legal action against the party by filing a case in the Federal High Court in Abuja. He is requesting an order to halt the upcoming National Convention scheduled for November 15.

The convention is set to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, with the aim of electing national officers to manage the party's affairs.

However, Lamido, who previously served as Minister of Foreign Affairs, has approached the high court seeking an order to prevent the convention due to his dissatisfaction with its planning process.

In his lawsuit, identified as FHC/ABJ/CD/2229/2025 and filed by Jephthah Chikodi Njikonye, SAN, on his behalf, the former Jigawa governor is also requesting that the court prohibit the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from supervising, assisting, or monitoring the convention, thereby denying it any legal endorsement.

Lamido's primary complaint is that he was unlawfully and improperly denied a nomination form to contest for the position of national chairman at the Ibadan convention.

He further alleges that the PDP has failed to strictly adhere to the provisions of its own Constitution and guidelines in organizing the convention.

Specifically, the plaintiff asserts that the party did not provide equal opportunities for all eligible members, including himself, to participate in the elections during the convention.

He is seeking a mandatory injunction compelling the party to make the nomination form for national chairman available to him.

Additionally, Lamido is requesting an order that would prevent INEC from supervising, assisting, or recognizing the conduct of any convention until he is allowed to contest at the event.
