The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State have reportedly exchanged remarks regarding the upcoming visit of the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, to the state.

The State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Malam Yusuf Idris, announced this in a statement on Monday.

Idris indicated that the PDP’s response to the minister’s planned visit demonstrated that the ruling party was “concerned and unsettled.”

He further stated that the PDP in Zamfara State is confused, fragmented, and apprehensive, noting that at every opportunity, its members, including prominent figures and supporters, continue to depart from the party due to its lack of performance.

The APC spokesperson also dismissed a statement attributed to the PDP State Publicity Secretary, Halliru Andi, who reportedly urged Matawalle to cancel his visit and remain at his post in Abuja.

He emphasized that the Minister, as a federal appointee, has the constitutional right to visit any part of the country, including his home state.

The spokesperson elaborated that Matawalle had previously operated from Sokoto State under the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu when, as he claimed, Governor Dauda Lawal allegedly did not permit the minister to operate from Zamfara.

“As a citizen of Zamfara State and leader of the APC in the state, he has every right to visit his people, his party, and his supporters,” Idris stated.
