Paystack, the Nigerian fintech startup, has suspended its co-founder and Chief Technology Officer, Ezra Olubi, following allegations of sexual misconduct in the workplace.
As reported by TechCabal, the company has launched a formal investigation after the allegations gained traction on social media on November 12.
Although Olubi’s X account has been deleted, trending posts suggest that the tweets in question were made before he co-founded Paystack.
The tweets, posted by Olubi between 2009 and 2013, included sexually explicit jokes about colleagues and mentions of experiencing erections during meetings.
They also contained comments about wanting to photograph a coworker’s thighs, as well as references to minors, bestiality, and sexualized anime characters.
“Paystack is aware of the allegations involving our co-founder, Ezra Olubi,” the company stated to TechCabal.
“We take these matters extremely seriously. Effective immediately, Ezra has been suspended from all duties and responsibilities pending the outcome of a formal investigation.
“Out of respect for those involved and to maintain the integrity of the process, we will not provide further comments until the investigation is concluded.”
Paystack mentioned that it has established a “fair, transparent, and structured” review process to conduct a thorough investigation.
The payment firm emphasized that this aligns with its internal policies.
“This process is guided by our policies, our values, and our commitment to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for all employees,” the company added.
