Oxford boss Matt Bloomfield accused Southampton of putting players’ “safety” at risk after losing at St. Mary’s Stadium
Bloomfield complained to match referee Ben Toner before kick-off that advertising boardings were placed too close to the pitch.

Saints officials were ordered to move them two metres from the pitch using measuring tapes to get it right.

Bloomfield said: “In my opinion it was not worth taking a risk with players’ welfare and safety.
“We didn’t need to do this for our long throws and my point was if they want to do it for a competitive advantage use softer advertising hoardings.
“These were hard with corners and it’s not worth taking a risk with players’ welfare and two players fell onto them.
“You know in my opinion we are all grown adults and it’s common sense.”
Play-off chasing Southampton extended their unbeaten league run to 12 games with a 2-0 win leaving Oxford second bottom.
