The Accord in Osun State has alleged a plot by the All Progressives Congress, APC, to manipulate the voters’ register ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election, a claim the APC has firmly denied as fabricated.
In a statement issued by its Chairman, Pastor Victor Akande on Friday, Accord claimed it had uncovered details of a secret meeting allegedly held by APC leaders to direct the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Resident Electoral Commissioner, Oluwatoyin Babalola, to remove certain voters from the register.
According to the party, “the meeting was reportedly held at the Ileri Oluwa campaign office, where a three-man committee was said to have been constituted to liaise with officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Osun State.”
Accord alleged that the plan involved the selective removal of its members from polling units, claiming that at least 75 Accord members and 25 APC members per unit were to be affected to create the impression of a technical error.”
A source cited in the statement further claimed that the new Resident Electoral Commissioner had agreed to instruct the head of ICT to carry out the alleged alterations to the voters’ register.
The party also alleged that “the operation was scheduled to commence within days, with a call centre linked to the APC governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, identified as a coordinating point.”
Pastor Akande, described the alleged plan as “an attempted coup plot against democracy and the democratic rights of Osun people.
“We will always be aware of Osun APC sinister plot to rig forthcoming polls,” Akande said, warning that any attempt to tamper with the voters’ register would be resisted.
He called on the electoral body to maintain neutrality, stating that “INEC is challenged to ensure a credible voters register devoid of partisan mutilation.”
Akande warned that any collaboration between the APC and electoral officials could threaten the credibility of the forthcoming election, urging “lovers of democracy” to remain vigilant.
However, in a swift response, the APC dismissed the allegations, describing them as false, baseless, and a deliberate attempt to misinform the public ahead of the election.
In a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, the party said the claims against its leader, Gboyega Oyetola, were entirely fabricated.
“It is absolute false that Alhaji Oyetola held a meeting with any of the staff of INEC, let alone giving any instructions to the Resident Electoral Commissioner,” Olabisi stated.
APC accused Accord of spreading “falsehoods and fabricated information due to fear of electoral defeat in the forthcoming poll.”
Olabisi added that party supporters and the public should disregard the allegations, insisting that the APC and its candidate remained focused on lawful campaigning ahead of the governorship election.
