The condition is a common type of fainting which is caused by a sudden drop in heart rate or blood pressure – and can be caused by emotional distress, dehydration or over-exertion.
The midfielder is “clinically well and stable” at the Einstein Hospital Israealita after being admitted to a cardiology unit, according to his club.
ESPN Brazil added that initial tests came back positive and everything suggests his heart is “intact”, saying that “of all the bad things that could have happened, this was the least bad”.
But as a precaution, the player will undergo a electrophysiological study, which examines the heart’s electrical activity to detect any arrhythmias.
His club Sao Paulo confirmed the tests would take place on Friday in a new statement where they shared the player’s new diagnosis.
The statement read: “Midfielder remains hospitalized at the Einstein Hospital Israelita, where he was admitted on Tuesday afternoon after presenting an incident with cardiological changes during tests carried out at SuperCT.
“Extensive investigation carried out at the hospital confirmed the diagnosis of vasovagal syncope.
“Oscar remains clinically well and stable, hospitalized in a cardiology unit, and will undergo an electrophysiological study this Friday.”
The former international initially caused concern after falling off his bike while undergoing a physical test, with Brazilian media claiming he was unconsciousness for two minutes.
After arriving at the hospital, Oscar had an MRI and underwent a diagnostic catheterisation.
