The Ogun State Teaching Service Commission (TESCOM) has announced plans to increase the rural allowance for teachers in the state, aiming to enhance teaching and learning in rural communities.

The TESCOM Chairman, Biodun Sanyaolu, made this announcement while speaking with reporters at his office in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, on Thursday.

Sanyaolu stated that this incentive is part of Governor Dapo Abiodun's commitment to motivate and uplift the morale of teachers assigned to rural schools, thereby improving their productivity.

“TESCOM has categorized schools into urban, semi-urban, and rural areas to identify which teachers will benefit from the incentive,” he said.

“The days of saying that teachers’ rewards are in heaven are over,” he emphasized.

The TESCOM chairman confirmed that there are enough teachers in secondary schools throughout the state, noting that the ongoing redistribution initiative by the commission aims to ensure equitable deployment of teachers in both rural and urban areas.

He also highlighted that the engagement and placement of Ogun Teach interns in rural schools is part of the commission’s efforts to create balance within the education system.
