The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the closure of an illegal minerals processing company in Rivers State.
Babawale Afolabi, the National Public Relations Officer of the Corps, stated that the agency has intensified its enforcement efforts against the illegal purchase, processing, and trade of minerals throughout the South-South Region. This initiative aligns with its statutory duty to protect critical national assets and ensure compliance with existing laws governing the mining sector.
The South-South Mining Marshal of the Corps, led by Deputy Superintendent of Corps Emmanuel Abiahu, sealed the premises of Twing Supply Chain Nig. Ltd., situated along Onne–Akwa Ibom Road in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, due to alleged violations of the Nigerian Mining Act.
According to the statement, preliminary intelligence reports and investigations indicated that the company was involved in purchasing, processing, and trading in minerals without the necessary licenses and permits as mandated by law. Additionally, regulatory lapses were identified during the operation.
As a result, the facility was temporarily closed to facilitate thorough investigations. Following this, appropriate legal action will be pursued in accordance with due process and applicable laws, serving as a deterrent to others.
The NSCDC urged all individuals and corporate entities engaged in mineral-related activities to ensure full compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including obtaining all relevant licenses and permits before starting operations.
Under the leadership of Commandant General Professor Ahmed Abubakar Audi, the Corps remains dedicated to upholding the rule of law, protecting national economic interests, and ensuring that mining and mineral processing activities across Nigeria follow acceptable national and international best practices.
This commitment aligns with the Federal Government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. The Corps assured the public of its ongoing vigilance and continued collaboration with relevant stakeholders to combat illegal activities within the mining sector, particularly in the South-South Zone.
