Mike Ejiofor, the former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), asserts that the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) lacks the capability to ensure the protection of Very Important Personalities (VIPs).
Ejiofor made this statement during an interview on the program ‘Politics Today’ on Channels Television, which was monitored by DAILY POST on Tuesday.
He responded to President Bola Tinubu’s directive to shift VIP protection responsibilities from the police to the NSCDC, emphasizing that the corps does not possess the necessary manpower or training to undertake such a critical role.
He noted that while the directive may have good intentions, it presents operational difficulties for the NSCDC.
“The NSCDC lacks the capacity; they are not adequately trained for this task. They do not have sufficient personnel to deploy, and their primary function is to safeguard critical infrastructure.
“This means they would also need training for VIP protection, which complicates the situation significantly,” Ejiofor stated.
