The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has rejected assertions that anyone, including President Bola Tinubu, would provide him with political directives regarding Rivers State in anticipation of the 2027 general election.

Wike expressed these views while speaking to his supporters over the weekend in the Ahoada Local Government Area of the state.

He stated that claims of individuals boasting that the president would call him to guide him on political issues in Rivers State are untrue.

Wike emphasized that no one possesses the authority to instruct him on the political matters of the state, noting that repeated calls of “on your mandate” would not automatically secure any candidate an election ticket, seemingly alluding to Rivers Governor Siminalyi Fubara.

It is noteworthy that Fubara recently switched his allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Nonetheless, Wike reaffirmed that the political choices in Rivers State would be determined by his own judgment and interests, free from external pressures.

He remarked: “I hear that people are claiming that they (President Tinubu) will contact me and issue instructions. Let me clarify, there is no such thing as instruction concerning Rivers State. No one will reach out to me. Even if you shout ‘on your mandate’ 50 times a day, it won’t guarantee you an automatic ticket.”
