The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu, has stated that terrorists, bandits, and criminals will no longer be able to find refuge anywhere in Nigeria, whether in forests, deserts, or national parks.
This statement was made while he was addressing officers and soldiers of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army in Ibadan on Monday during an operational visit.
Shaibu commended the soldiers for their recent accomplishments and encouraged them to maintain their high standards of performance.
“They must recognize that there is no place to hide. Regardless of the weather—be it rain or shine—in forests, deserts, or mountains, we will pursue them,” he emphasized.
He pointed out that criminal groups have frequently exploited remote areas to launch attacks on innocent citizens, but such activities will no longer be tolerated.
The Army Chief instructed troops to enhance their night operations, stressing that controlling vital terrains is essential for restricting the movement of bandits.
Addressing security concerns in Kwara, Kainji Lake National Park, and Old Oyo National Park, Shaibu stated,
“Orders have been issued to eliminate all criminal elements from these regions. We are committed to eradicating anyone who poses a threat in these areas,” he affirmed.
He praised the General Officer Commanding (GOC) and other senior officers for their effective leadership, noting that the operational briefings demonstrated a clear focus and determination.
The COAS also encouraged officers to continue leading by example, as he described leadership as vital for achieving operational success.
Regarding troop welfare, Shaibu assured soldiers that their well-being is a primary concern.
“You will receive everything you need, and all your entitlements will be disbursed promptly,” he assured.
He mentioned that approval has been granted for the construction of additional barracks and renovations to alleviate accommodation challenges.
He concluded by stating that strong discipline, high morale, and improved welfare are crucial for maintaining an advantage in operations and ensuring the safety of communities across the region.
