Activist Aisha Yesufu has expressed her discontent with Nigerians for turning against each other instead of holding President Bola Tinubu’s administration accountable for the ongoing violence in the country.
In a post on X on Tuesday, Yesufu stated that the government has effectively shifted public outrage, pointing out that citizens are now quarreling over the identities of the victims rather than demanding an end to the violence.
Yesufu criticized what she referred to as religious and tribal bias in the public's response to insecurity, emphasizing that many Nigerians only show outrage when the victims share their faith or ethnicity.
The activist urged Nigerians to take responsibility and demand accountability from the government, rather than waiting for foreign powers to intervene.
She stated, “I commend the illegitimate administration of Mr. Bola Ahmed Tinubu. He has managed to pit defeated individuals against one another instead of facing him and his illegitimate government regarding the killings in Nigeria.
“Consider that the argument is over who is being killed rather than acknowledging that citizens are being killed.
“For those with religious biases, they only notice when individuals of their faith are killed. For those with tribal biases, they only react when their tribal members are killed.
“I have repeatedly said that you must be strategically targeted for your death to be acknowledged in Nigeria.
“If people are claiming that there is a Christian genocide in Nigeria, who are you to deny it? Are you one of the deceased victims?
“If you have evidence showing that Muslims or traditional worshippers are also being killed, why don’t you mobilize your own community or allies to declare that there is a Muslim genocide or a genocide against traditional worshippers, and draw more global attention to the killings in Nigeria?
“Isn't our goal to end the killings?
“As for Nigerians who continuously evade their responsibilities and are fixated on the U.S. declaring a Christian genocide in Nigeria, what happens after that declaration?
“What are you doing to ensure that the killings cease? Don’t hide behind claims of helplessness; you are not. You are an active participant! You vote, you have a voice!
“How have you utilized both? Take a moment to reflect on what you have done to help stop the killings!”
