American rapper Darryl Dwayne Granberry Jr., widely known as DDG, has referred to the Western media portrayal of Nigeria as “fake”.
The hip-hop artist, who is currently enjoying a holiday in Lagos, stated that contrary to Western narratives, Nigeria is “nowhere near” as perilous as the United States.
He encouraged international visitors to come to Nigeria and witness the reality for themselves.
In a video message, DDG expressed, “I genuinely believe that America is the most dangerous country. I don’t think Nigeria is as dangerous as America – not even close.”
“There is certainly some insecurity in Nigeria. However, gun violence and gang-related activities are not as prevalent in Nigeria as they are in America. So, if anyone is considering a trip to Nigeria, come on over.”
DDG also mentioned that he had been informed that Nigerian cuisine was unhealthy and was advised to always boil water before drinking while in Nigeria.
He noted that contrary to the negative views about Nigerian foods, he found them to be quite healthy, particularly jollof rice.
