A Nigerian-American mathematician and educator, Dr Akinyemi Agbede, has urged the Nigerian government to do more in advancing science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education.

Agbede spoke in a statement made available to DAILY POST on Monday.

He said the Nigerian government needed to be practical in implementing its STEM-focused education initiatives.

Agbede, who is currently vying for the California governorship election in 2026, said that Nigerians in the diaspora are doing a lot to project the country in a good light.

“With an effective implementation of existing STEM policies, Nigeria can be the best globally,”; the statement said.

Recall that in January 2025, the High Commissioner of Canada to Nigeria, Pasquale Salvaggio; the High Commissioner of Sierra Leone, Dr. Julius F. Sandy; and the Ambassador of Ethiopia told President Bola Tinubu that in both public and private sectors in their respective countries.
