The South West Coordinator of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), Zone D, Comrade Josiah Adeyemo, has cautioned chairmen of the Joint Campus Councils (JCC) across the region against issuing appointments without proper authorisation.
Adeyemo issued the warning in a press statement released on Wednesday, stressing that adherence to constitutional provisions was essential to maintaining order within the zone.
He warned that any actions capable of destabilising the structure of the association would not be tolerated if found to contravene established guidelines.
According to him, the NANS constitution clearly outlines the hierarchy of authority and the limits of powers, which must be respected by all executives operating within the South West zone.
“As the presiding officer of NANS Southwest (Zone D), it remains the constitutional responsibility of my office to ensure strict adherence to the provisions of the NANS Constitution,” Adeyemo said.
He added that the Office of the Coordinator retains supervisory authority over all activities within the six states in the zone, namely Lagos State, Ogun State, Oyo State, Osun State, Ekiti State, and Ondo State.
The coordinator stated that no executive outside his office and that of the General Secretariat is authorised to make appointments, issue statements, or release official publications on behalf of the zone.
“In situations deemed necessary, any executive intending to issue a communication must first consult and obtain approval from the Coordinator or the General Secretary before such publication,” he said.
Adeyemo directed that all appointments must henceforth be processed and released strictly through the official letterheads of the Coordinator’s office or the General Secretariat.
He emphasised that any appointment issued outside these approved channels would be regarded as null and void, urging the public to disregard such communications.
The coordinator also declared invalid all publications made by JCC executives in Lagos and Ogun states concerning the ongoing leadership disputes in both states.
He stated: “All previous publications issued by any Zonal Executive regarding developments in NANS JCC Lagos State and Ogun State are hereby declared null and void and shall carry no administrative weight.”
The directive followed reports that student union leaders in Ogun State had earlier announced the removal of some NANS officials over alleged constitutional breaches and eligibility concerns, as contained in a communiqué issued after a meeting in Abeokuta.
Adeyemo urged stakeholders, students, and the public to await an official position from the zonal leadership, noting that consultations were ongoing and that any final decision would be communicated through appropriate constitutional channels.
