BEFORE becoming a mum, there were a lot of things I didn’t know about babies, one of which was how much newborns hate being put down.
Upon the arrival of my daughter, therefore, I was shocked to learn that putting her down did not appear to be an option, ever.
On top of the fact that she hated leaving my arms, there was the added stress of sleep safety, and I promptly realised that even if I could put her down, I didn’t have anywhere apart from her cot that was considered sleep-safe.
Then I discovered Najell . Its SleepCarriers are cosy, portable and most importantly, sleep-safe, so I put one to the test.

Quickfire Q&A
How much is it? The SleepCarrier Vol.5 I tested costs £145. Accessories such as waterproof beddin g , reducers , canopies and covers all come separately and cost between £22 and £35 each.
Who are they best for? New parents. I wish I’d had this from the day my baby was born.
What we loved: My favourite thing about it is that my baby loves it: It’s cosy and makes her feel snug and secure. I love that I can pick her up and take her wherever I need to go, and that it’s sleep-safe.
What we didn’t: Frankly, it’s a lot of money. It’s something I would love to gift all my friends when they become parents, but I simply couldn’t afford to.
I discovered the Najell SleepCarrier when my daughter was three months old.
By this point, she was largely over the “needing to be held 24/7” stage – I can only dream of how much hands-free time it would have bought me in those early days.
However, over the last month, I’ve used it every day without fail.
She’s much happier in the SleepCarrier than in other containers that I’ve purchased, including a DockATot and baby bouncer.
My favourite usage has been after a long restless night’s sleep; my husband will pop her in the Najell carrier and take her with him while he gets ready for work, buying me an hour of blissful uninterrupted sleep.
On days when she’s due a nap but I also need to leave the house, I’ve put her down in the Najell, and then popped that in the when it’s time to leave.
It’s made life much easier rather than trying to transfer her from her cot to her pram, inevitably waking her.
The waterproof cover is useful when I want to head into the garden
I absolutely love that it’s considered safe for daytime and nighttime sleep. As a first-time parent, sleep safety is something I’ve (ironically) lost a lot of sleep over, and having somewhere I can put her down, in sight, that meets safety requirements is a godsend.
The cocoon-style design makes her feel really secure; she doesn’t roll around when I pick her up. However, if I’d bought it when she was smaller, I’d have made sure to buy the reducer for extra security.
The only downside that I can think of is the price. It’s a lot of money to spend on something that will, in all likelihood, last your baby a maximum of six months.
Additionally, the accessories are extra money on top of the carrier. And let’s be honest, waterproof beddin g is a necessity for a newborn.
However, if you’re looking to purchase a container for your baby, I would highly recommend the Najell SleepCarrier.
I originally purchased a DockATot at a similar price without realising it, but in hindsight I would’ve opted for the Najell from the get-go – plus my baby much prefers it!
The Verdict: Is the Najell SleepCarrier worth it?
THE Najell SleepCarrier has made my life a LOT easier on many occasions, and I can only imagine how much I would’ve used it in those first couple of months of my daughter’s life.
However, it’s a lot of money and a luxury item. Do you need it? No. But will you be grateful you had it? Certainly.
