GARDENERS’ World star Monty Don has been given a warning after breaking BBC guidelines with his choice of on-screen attire.
The TV star has been a regular on the Beeb for years thanks to his helpful skills and tips but he has now incurred the wrath of the corporation’s top bosses.

70-year-old Monty was seen sporting a very pricey jacket on a recent episode of the nature programme – and it seems to have fallen foul of the BBC’s very strict guidelines.
The star was seen sporting a £300 jacket from luxury retailer Barbour whilst filming for the recent series of the show.
It came shortly after he signed on to work with the brand for their current spring/summer series.
As well as wearing the jacket in an episode, he was also seen wearing the item of clothing in a promotional video on the official Gardeners’ World account.
But as part of BBC guidelines, on-screen talent are forbidden from wearing items that they have a commercial deal to promote away from the network.
It falls under Section 4.4 of the BBC guidelines, titled Conflicts of Interest.
That part of the code expressly states: “Presenters or other individuals must not appear on-air wearing clothing or using products or services which they have agreed/been contracted to promote, advertise or endorse or in which they have a specific financial interest.”
Reports from the Mirror indicate how Monty has now been spoken to by the BBC about his clothing choices on the show and has been reminded of the guidelines and his terms of contract.
When contacted by The Sun, a BBC spokesperson told us: “We have clear guidelines around presenters’ commercial activities while working with the BBC, and Monty has been reminded of these guidelines.”
A representative for Monty did not immediately respond to request for comment.
Monty is working with Barbour as part of their current A Way Of Life campaign.
, AJ Odudu, Ella Eyre, and have also partnered with the brand for the campaign which lets fans but their full looks on the Barbour website.
Monty has been the leading face of the popular gardening show since 2003.
