A MAN who has been missing for almost two years has been pictured, after police arrested 12 people in a murder probe into his death.

Cops are set to begin digging at a home in the after the disappearance of Gary Piatek, who has not been seen since April 2024.

say there has been no proof of life of the 60-year-old since then, and he has now been pictured for the first time.

Officers confirmed specialist teams will be digging into the ground at an address on Broad Street, Evington, , as the “lengthy” enquiries continue.

Twelve people were arrested on Tuesday in connection with the .

Eight of them, including six men aged between 21 and 61, and two women aged 34 and 29, are being held on suspicion of murder.

A ninth person, a man aged 50, was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

Two other men, aged 25 and 23, arrested on suspicion of murder, have been released under investigation.

A 23-year-old woman arrested on the same charge was released with no further action on Wednesday.

Officers say significant activity, including specially trained search teams, building machinery, and crime scene investigators, will continue at the address over the coming days and weeks.

There will also be activity in connection with the probe at nearby properties on Broad Avenue, Gwendolen Road and Falmouth Road.

Det Insp Michael Chandler, from the East Midlands Special Operations Unit, described the investigation as “lengthy and complex”.

He said: “Our investigation is still very much in its early stages, with a large amount of police activity ongoing. This is likely to be the case for a number of weeks yet.

“We are continuing to establish the full circumstances of what has happened to Mr Piatek as part of our ongoing enquiries.

“I am appealing to anyone who has any information in relation to him or in relation to what has happened to him to make contact with us.”

The Senior Investigating Officer added: “As part of our investigation, we will be carrying out a thorough search of an address at Broad Avenue in East Leicester.

“There will therefore be a significant amount of police activity at this address over the coming days and weeks, including specially trained search officers, building machinery and scene investigators.

“The searches will include digging into the ground at the property.

“This police activity is very much to help us in determining what has happened. There is nothing to suggest the wider community is at risk.

“Our efforts in finding information are very much focused at this time on the address in Broad Avenue.”

He added that he understood there would be questions and concerns, and that officers remained in the area to speak with people and offer reassurance.

The force have asked the public to speak to officers around the property if needed, and also reiterated that the operation had no connection to Counter Terrorism.
