A LORRY became stuck in a giant sinkhole – after being sent to fix it.

Workmen from the firm, named Stabilised Pavements, were sent out to repair part of the track after it suffered from severe subsidence.

But while driving along the fragile road, the ground gave way to the , leaving one side of the vehicle wedged in an enormous pothole at a shocking 45-degree angle.

The workmen were forced to abandon the lorry and arrangements were made for it to be hoisted out at a later date.

The incident follows a similar incident in February in Scotland, , which formed after a neighbouring sea wall was damaged.

The lorry – which had been delivering tarmac – became lodged in the hole, with pictures showing the grey Scania teetering on its side.

The incident led to the road being shut for almost a month.

East Lothian Council has confirmed the vehicle, weighing approximately 32,000kg, has now been removed.

A resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said there is a history of sinkholes due to the damaged seawall.

They said: “Another sinkhole appeared – the one they’re repairing now.

“The lorry turned up this morning to put some tarmac on the street – this was the lorry containing the tarmac – and it fell in.”

They added that the lorry was left at “quite a strange angle”, probably worse than the photos make it appear.

“I thought maybe it had lost a wheel or had a big puncture – I thought there was no way it could be another sinkhole.”

Stabilised Pavements has been contacted for comment.
