Hamilton couldn’t resist visiting the Daikoku Parking Area in Yokohama, which is a must-visit for car enthusiasts in Japan.
Fans went bezerk when they saw a red F40 pull up and park between a Subaru Impreza and a widebody Honda NSX.
And jaws fully dropped when the driver switched off the engine and stepped out of the car to reveal his identity as none other than Hamilton.
Hamilton is a huge fan of the Ferrari F40 and has previously described it as a “piece of art”
He has never owned one but it is the one car he has always dreamed of purchasing.
Hamilton revealed last year that he sold his ENTIRE car collection to focus on his new passion of art.
The Brit once owned a megabucks 15-car haul of limited edition Ferraris, Mercedes and McLarens.
The jaw-dropping collection was estimated to be worth around £13million and kept in private garages in Monaco and Los Angeles.
He was asked last season if he would like to buy Ferrari’s latest flagship supercar, the F80.
He said: “I don’t have any cars anymore,
“I don’t have any cars, so I got rid of all my cars. I’m more into art nowadays.”
But he added: “If I was going to get a car, it would be the F40. But that’s a nice piece of art.”
Hamilton was pictured posing next to an F40 outside of Enzo Ferrari’s house during his first visit to Ferrari’s Maranello at the end of January.
Ferrari F40
A Ferrari F40 is widely considered one of the greatest supercars ever made.
And as of March 2026, the value of a Ferrari F40 is at an all-time high.
Market Value (2026)
- Average Condition: between $3 million and $3.5 million.
- Pristine / Low-Mileage: Exceptional examples are currently selling for $4 million to $5.5 million.
- Record Sales: In January 2026, a 1992 model with only 458 miles on the odometer set a record, selling for $6.6 million.
Why Is It So Expensive?
- It was the final car personally overseen and approved by Enzo Ferrari before his death.
- It has no power steering, no power brakes, and no electronic driver aids—just a twin-turbo V8 and a manual gated shifter.
- While Hamilton recently announced he sold off most of his private car collection to focus on art and sustainability, he has publicly called the F40 the “one car he’d still want” and a “piece of art.”
