Hamilton looked absolutely smitten as

Hamilton, 41, said: “This has been the most different summer break that I’ve ever had in all my championship seasons and my career actually.

“Normally, you go away and you take a week off or two weeks off. There’s a bit of partying and all that sort of stuff.

“I really took this as an opportunity to really level up. I trained for three weeks. I’ve come back the fittest I’ve ever come back in summer in the 20 years I’ve been here.

“My trainer and I did a lot of analysis to look at where we have been, the things that we did well, the things that we leave behind.

“Taking out things that don’t ultimately get me to where I want to be. I’ve come in feeling something different, rather than relaxed I feel energised. It’s a good feeling, feeling fit.”

The seven-time world champion finally broke his Ferrari victory drought this year by winning in Barcelona.

And Hamilton roared that he is hungry for a win in Zandvoort, having not stood on the top of the podium at the Dutch circuit.

It is the last race at the track with Zandvoort dropping off the calendar following this weekend.

Despite its popularity, organisers have not been able to make the even work financially and have decided not to continue hosting F1.

Hamilton said: “I’ve won pretty much all the other tracks, but I don’t remember if I’ve won here before. I definitely want to change that. Massively driven, it’s just such an incredible circuit.

“Great crowd, obviously. Very special, particularly for Max (Verstappen) as he comes here and has incredible support through the weekend. They really create the atmosphere.

It’s a track I’ve yet to really truly conquer, I would say, in F1 so it’s definitely something I want to try and do this weekend.”
