The Olu of Oregun, Dr Olusesan Olukunmi Akingbola, has issued a mandatory stay-indoors directive to residents of the Oregun community in Lagos, ahead of traditional rites scheduled for the Egungun Festival.

A circular issued by the monarch on Tuesday announced that all residents, indigenes and non-indigenes alike, must remain indoors from 10pm on November 27 to 4am on November 28, 2025.

The monarch explained that the restriction is necessary to allow Agan, a key component of the festival, to move through the community to perform customary midnight rites and sacrifices.

β€œAll residents are hereby informed that no one should be seen outside between 10pm and 4am. All lights must be switched off by 10pm. These directives apply to everyone living in Oregun,” the notice read.

Oba Akingbola also disclosed that the Nigeria Police Force had been placed on alert and would be deployed across strategic locations in the community to ensure safety during the traditional exercise.

The monarch warned that defaulters would face immediate consequences in line with traditional protocols.

Residents seeking further clarification were advised to contact the palace through the following telephone numbers: 08067144648 and 08028732833.
