Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, inaugurated a newly constructed Divisional Police Headquarters in Epe, Lagos State, on Friday. This project was donated by Hon. Olawale Raji, who represents the Epe Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.
During the commissioning ceremony held at Oke-Oyinbo, Epe, the IGP referred to the facility as a significant achievement in the Nigeria Police Force’s ongoing efforts to modernize its infrastructure and enhance community policing throughout Lagos State.
Egbetokun, who was represented by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Jimoh Olohundare, announced the official elevation of the Epe Police Station to a Divisional Headquarters. This upgrade is anticipated to boost operational efficiency, improve response times, and strengthen police-community relations in the region.
He praised Hon. Raji for his vision and commitment to public safety, describing the donation as a representation of genuine collaboration between citizens and the police.
“By constructing and donating this modern police headquarters, Hon. Raji has solidified the foundation of law enforcement and enhanced the trust between the police and the community,” Egbetokun stated.
The new facility was named in honor of the late Assistant Inspector-General of Police, Ganiyu Agbaje, in recognition of his distinguished service and contributions to national security.
Egbetokun also encouraged residents to take ownership of the project, emphasizing that the building belongs to the Epe community and was designed to meet their safety and security requirements.
In his comments to journalists, CP Olohundare mentioned that police response times in Lagos have significantly improved, now averaging five minutes, thanks to enhanced logistics and strategic reforms under the current police leadership.
He noted that the “Eko Strike Force” operates with 12 patrol vehicles and four armored personnel carriers, ensuring a quicker response to emergency calls across the state.
He also commended the residents of Epe for their cooperation with the police, highlighting that the area remains one of the most peaceful in Lagos.
“I have never had to deploy officers to Epe for crisis management. The level of peace and discipline here is exemplary and worthy of emulation by other communities,” he remarked.
Hon. Raji, for his part, mentioned that he initiated the project three years ago after recognizing the shortcomings of the former station.
He explained that the new Divisional Headquarters represents the strength of collaboration between government and community stakeholders.
Raji also commended the Nigeria Police Force for its efforts in combating cultism and other crimes in Epe since 2015. He announced new constituency development initiatives, including the allocation of 400 free market stalls by November and the construction of four new roads within the town.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by senior police officials, representatives from other security agencies, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community members, and political associates, all of whom praised Hon. Raji for his leadership and contributions to the development of Epe.
