The Muslim Public Affairs Centre ,MPAC, has condemned a deadly attack on Woro village in Kaiama local government council of Kwara State, which reportedly claimed the lives of at least 170 people, including women and children.

In a statement issued on Thursday, MPAC said the attack occurred on Tuesday, February 3, and was allegedly carried out by suspected Boko Haram insurgents. The group said graphic images from the scene showed bodies strewn across the streets amid pools of blood following the assault.

According to MPAC, reports indicated that the attackers had earlier sent a letter to the district head of Woro, Alhaji Salihu Umar, informing him of their intention to visit the community for preaching. Suspecting a potential security threat, the district head reportedly alerted security agencies.

The militants later launched a violent reprisal, killing residents, setting homes ablaze and abducting several people,”
MPAC said.

Describing the incident as a “heinous act of violence,” the organisation said the attack highlighted Nigeria’s deteriorating security situation and underscored the urgent need for stronger protective measures.

The group urged the Kwara state government to provide immediate relief and assistance to affected communities. It also urged authorities to intensify efforts to safeguard lives and property across the state.

While acknowledging recent military operations against armed groups in the area, MPAC said more comprehensive action was required.

They called on the Federal Government to strengthen security across the wider Borgu axis, covering parts of Kebbi, Niger and Kwara states, and to work closely with local leaders to prevent further attacks.

The organisation also appealed to the international community to support Nigeria’s counter-terrorism efforts and provide humanitarian assistance to victims of the violence.

MPAC said it stood in solidarity with the people of Woro and the Muslim community in Kwara State and across Nigeria, calling for peace, justice and healing in the aftermath of the attack.
