The Kogi State House of Assembly has officially passed the 2026 Appropriation Bill into law following an extensive review process that included public participation, budget defense sessions, and thorough legislative scrutiny.
Mr. Olawumi Jacob, the Chairman of the House Committee on Budget Monitoring and Appropriation, addressed journalists after the budget was passed during the Assembly session on Wednesday. He explained that Ministries, Departments, and Agencies, represented by their commissioners, appeared before the committee to justify their proposed allocations, ensuring a thorough budget defense session.
“To guarantee efficiency, accountability, and alignment with the state’s development priorities, lawmakers meticulously examined sectoral allocations and made necessary adjustments,” he stated.
The chairman further elaborated that the lawmakers conducted a comprehensive review of the budget, assessed the sectoral distribution of funds, and incorporated the recommendations from civil society organizations during the technical sessions.
The House adopted the committee’s report, resulting in the passage of the budget into law after thorough deliberations.
