Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has condemned the killing of 12 residents of the state in a mob attack in Mangu Local Government Area of Plateau State, calling on security agencies to swiftly apprehend and prosecute those responsible.

The victims, who were part of a 31-member group from the Basawa community in Zaria, Kaduna State, were traveling in an 18-seater Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria bus en route to Qua’an Pan LGA for a wedding ceremony when they lost their way and were attacked by a mob after stopping to ask for directions.

DAILY POST gathered that eleven others sustained varying degrees of injuries and are currently receiving treatment at the Mangu General Hospital.

In a statement issued onSaturday, Governor Sani described the attack as “barbaric and senseless,”; insisting that such acts must not go unpunished.

“There is no justification for attacking any Nigerian citizen in any part of the country,”; the governor stated. “This act of savagery must be condemned by all, and the killers must be fished out and dealt with accordingly.”;

Governor Sani also urged his Plateau State counterpart, Caleb Mutfwang, to take decisive action in coordinating security efforts to ensure that justice is served.

“I will personally follow up on the progress of the investigation. We must send a clear message that impunity will no longer be tolerated,”; he added.

He called on citizens of Kaduna State to remain calm and avoid any retaliatory actions, assuring them that the state government is doing everything possible to support the families of the victims and ensure the injured receive adequate medical attention.

“I am in touch with the families of the deceased,”; he said, adding: “We shall do all within our power to lessen their pains.”;
