Kevin Sinfield backed to improve England RU after RL and fundraising feats

ENGLAND rugby union have a ‘phenomenal human’ on board after bringing Kevin Sinfield on to their staff.

The Leeds rugby league legend has followed Steve Borthwick on to the national 15-a-side as defence coach.

Kevin Sinfield will assist Steve Borthwick at England RU

And Rhinos boss Rohan Smith believes after seeing him put himself through amazing running challenges in the name of pal and former team-mate Rob Burrow, few better people can be working at Twickenham.

He said: “Kevin’s a phenomenal human being to do what he does for other people.

“He sacrifices his time and his body to improve other people’s lives, which is something I can take inspiration from and aspire to contribute to society in such a way that he does.

“Now he’s involved in the England camp, having someone of that character, who’s an expert in rugby league and probably is now in rugby union, and way of living is an asset.

“He would be to every organisation, sporting or otherwise.”

Smith has a connection with Sinfield in that his son Jack is part of Leeds’ squad.

But there will be no preferential treatment for the 18-year-old half back – games will only come if he deserves them.

He added: “It’s up to Jack’s performances and the way he goes. He has a mature head on his shoulders but he’s got experienced players in front of him.

“How often he plays in 2023 will be up to him and how he plays.”
