Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State has announced a state of emergency concerning infrastructural development and human services, citing increasing challenges that threaten public health, safety, and overall welfare.

This declaration, as stated in a release made public on Friday by the office of the Secretary to the State Government, aims to expedite interventions necessary for enhancing critical sectors throughout the state.

To facilitate the emergency response, the governor has also sanctioned the formation of a 24-month Emergency Implementation Committee (EIC), tasked with coordinating and supervising all actions taken during the emergency period.

Additionally, the committee will include the Commissioner of Energy and Economic Development, Commissioner of Environment and Climate Change, Commissioner of Works & Infrastructure, the Chairman of the State Planning Commission, the State Auditor-General, and the Director-General of the Bureau for Public Procurement.

In another update, the state government has announced the creation and renaming of several ministries as part of an ongoing administrative restructuring approved by the governor.

According to a statement released by the Secretary to the State Government, Chief Gebon Timothy Kataps, the adjustments involve both the establishment of new ministries and the renaming of existing ones to better align with their mandates.

The changes include the Ministry of Social Development and Human Services, which will now take the place of the former Ministry of Cooperatives & Poverty Alleviation.

Additionally, two new ministries have been created: the Ministry of Nursery and Basic Education, and the Ministry of Secondary, Vocational, and Skill Education.

The Ministry of Social Justice will now be renamed the Ministry of Social Justice and Re-Integration, according to the statement.
