The Kano State Government has denied rumors that Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf recently stopped wearing the red cap.

The governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, stated that there was no order for supporters to stop wearing the traditional red and white attire of the Kwankwasiyya movement.

The clarification comes after Yusuf was seen in Yola, Adamawa State, at a political gathering alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni, and other prominent figures.

The governor’s decision to implement the red cap policy had sparked speculation about a possible widening divide between him and his political mentor, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, known for its distinctive white attire and red caps.

In a post on his Facebook page, Tofa responded to the claims, explaining that the event in Yola had a particular dress code and did not signal any change in political direction.

He wrote: “There has been no directive to remove the red cap. The trip to Yola in Adamawa State was a special event where important people wore a specific type of clothing. Everything has its time.”
